Backgrounds

Here are some backgrounds I worked on. A friend of mine went to Ireland last year and is about to go back again soon. I was browsing through her photos and loved them, so I used them as references.

This one was driving me nuts... I didn't like the drawing very much and I painted the background with watercolor (not very well) and the foreground digitally in photoshop, just to see the outcome. blah...
I liked certain parts of it, so I broke it up into two compositions...

Sketchbook: Animals

Animals are probably my favorite thing to draw. I went to the zoo a little while ago and did some sketching there, some of these are gestures from the zoo and others are more developed sketches built off of the gestures.

Owls especially are really interesting to me, they seem to only have two expressions. I feel they look like they're either really pissed off about something, or just really surprised.

This wasn't from the zoo, there weren't any sheep or shepherd boys there, but sheep are cute!

on the streets

I can be a painfully shy person and I love anybody who can go out into the world, be who they want to be and do what they love to do.
so here are some illustrations of some street musicians, who do just that.

Summer Days: Beach Vacation

Its summer, time to bust out the bathing suits and sunglasses...and the sunblock, insect repellent, goggles nose plugs, arm floats, life jackets and anything else that will ruin all the fun.
Some parents go a little overboard...
I played around a bit with the color palette and thought it would be fun to make it look like an old photo from someones summer vacation

These are just some other character designs

Gesture Drawings and Nudes

These are some old gesture drawings from freshman year

These are some newer ones, some I've redone using older gesture drawings as references, they're not as life-like but I've added some character and exaggeration.

Watercolor

I've never really played around with water color all too much, and when I did it seemed to turn into a muddy mess. So I got a small watercolor sketchbook just for some practice.

mushrooms are unbelievably fun to draw, so many shapes colors and sizes!

The bear was a mother's day gift.
This is the chandelier in my house, yes it's super tacky with fake plastic crystals and yes it's been decorated with empty beer cans...Molson Canadian I believe..  its pretty sweet.

First Post!

Well, I finally got a blog! So here some things I've been working on since graduation, just some things from my sketchbook that I colored in photoshop.
Not sure what inspired the pirate theme, it started as a doodle (as most things do) in my psych notebook, but I had a lot of fun playing with textures and shapes.
Speaking of taking notes, I'm taking my last class this summer, humanistic psych, only two weeks left! It's probably the best liberal arts class I've ever taken and I actually do pay attention but I still doodle in class and they're not half bad.
Its just funny when I start looking through my class notes for inspiration in my sketchbook. Some of these doodles, like the pirate, have inspired some pretty cool characters, that I'm working on now and will be posting soon!
